Selling into Albania

Albania is not among the 25 markets in the Ministry of Trade’s furniture export table for 2025, and the ministry’s country profile does not list furniture among Türkiye’s main exports there. The total is the figure on record: Türkiye exported $926m of goods to Albania in 2024, 21% more than in 2023.

There is no duty on Turkish furniture. The Türkiye–Albania free trade agreement was signed in Tirana on 22 December 2006 and entered into force on 1 May 2008, and Albania’s duties on Turkish-origin industrial goods reached zero on 1 January 2013. Goods from countries without an agreement pay between 0% and 15% depending on the product, and VAT at import is 20%.

The rule that causes trouble is language. The ministry calls an Albanian-language label the most critical requirement and the one that causes most problems at customs; the usual practice is an Albanian sticker added over the original label, carrying product name, contents, quantity, producer or importer details and country of origin. Packaging is the second thing to settle. The producer or importer carries a waste-management obligation for it and either joins a recovery scheme or pays a contribution, so the order should say who does that.
