Selling into Georgia

Georgia is small and rising fast. Turkish furniture exports to Georgia were $101m in 2025, up 25% on the year, on the Ministry of Trade’s figures. The relationship is lopsided in Türkiye’s favour: Türkiye was Georgia’s largest single source of imports in 2025 with an 18% share, and furniture, lighting and prefabricated buildings are among the main groups Georgia buys from it.

There is no duty and no sea leg. The Türkiye–Georgia free trade agreement was signed in Tbilisi on 21 November 2007, published in the Resmî Gazete of 24 September 2008 (No. 27007, repeated issue) and entered into force on 1 November 2008; customs duties and charges of equivalent effect on industrial goods were reciprocally set to zero from that date. Furniture is neither an agricultural product nor coal and steel, so it is inside the industrial coverage. Three road gates connect the two countries: Sarp, Türkgözü and Aktaş.

The fact that changes how you read a Georgian order is that Georgia is a corridor as well as a market. Since the war in Ukraine, European shipments that used to cross the Black Sea directly have moved onto the road, and the Ministry of Trade’s 2026 country profile says the Georgian road route has become close to the only route for goods moving to Central Asia and the Caucasus. Türkiye’s own land gates to Armenia, Akyaka and Alican, are not in use.

So ask what a Georgian delivery address is. A Batumi hotel fit-out, a Tbilisi retail order and a bonded warehouse feeding onward road freight to Baku or Central Asia look identical on paper and are three different jobs, with three different packing, labelling and payment requirements. Settle it before you price the container, and settle who carries the cost if the goods move on.
