Selling into North Macedonia

North Macedonia is not among the 25 markets named in the Ministry of Trade’s furniture export table for 2025, so the useful number comes from the ministry’s country profile. Türkiye’s exports to North Macedonia were $710m in 2025, level with 2024. Seating and parts (HS 9401) were $13.9m of that and other furniture and parts (HS 9403) $13.2m, each about 10% lower than the year before.

There is no duty on Turkish furniture. The Türkiye–North Macedonia free trade agreement was signed on 7 September 1999 and entered into force on 1 September 2000; North Macedonia removed its customs duties on industrial goods of Turkish origin from 1 January 2008. The origin matters because the fallback is not zero: the ministry puts North Macedonia’s MFN duties on industrial goods at just under 23%.

Three practical rules come from the ministry’s market report. Labels on goods placed on the market must be written in Macedonian and Albanian and carry quality, content, quantity, storage, transport, use, care and country of origin. VAT is 18% and is paid at import together with any duty. And the country is landlocked: sea freight usually comes in through Thessaloniki, less often Piraeus, or Durrës in Albania, and the rest arrives by lorry. A delivered price should say which port it assumes.
