Selling into Switzerland

Switzerland is not among the 25 markets in the Ministry of Trade’s furniture table for 2025, and furniture is not in the ministry’s list of Türkiye’s main exports there. The total is growing fast: Turkish exports to Switzerland were $2.24bn in 2025, up 42% on the year.

Duty is the simplest part. Switzerland announced the abolition of import duties on industrial goods from 1 January 2024, whatever their origin; only agricultural and fishery products are outside the definition of industrial goods. Before that, Turkish goods already entered free under the EFTA–Türkiye free trade agreement, signed in Geneva on 10 December 1991 and in force with Switzerland since 1 April 1992; a revised agreement has applied since 1 October 2021, tied to the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean origin convention and removing quotas on road haulage. Abolishing the tariff does not remove the border: the importer still files an import declaration and pays VAT and other charges.

Product rules follow Europe with one exception. Under the Cassis de Dijon principle and the mutual recognition agreement with the EU, goods already assessed and lawfully sold in the EU need no fresh conformity assessment in Switzerland, and the ministry says this also applies to industrial goods from Türkiye under the protocol signed with it. The exception is language: instructions and packaging must carry Switzerland’s national languages — German, French and Italian — either the language of the region where the goods are sold or all of them, depending on the product group.
