What is actually made here

Ankara is on the Ministry of Trade’s production-centre list, and what the ministry is naming is Siteler. The report describes Siteler as founded in the 1960s, operating over an area of about 5,000 dönüm, and counts it among the country’s organised production and trade centres.

The scale is workshop scale, and that is the single most useful thing to know before ordering here. The information report prepared for the planned Elmadağ Furniture Specialised Organised Industrial Zone — a project whose founding partners include the Ankara Chamber of Industry — records a survey that found 5,644 furniture-making businesses in Siteler employing about 10,500 people. Of those firms 46% had fewer than four workers, 44% had four to ten, 8% had eleven to twenty-five, and only 2% had more than twenty-five. The report says outright that large-scale furniture producers in Siteler are almost non-existent. The report is dated 2016 and the survey figures trace back to the Ankara Development Agency’s 2011–2013 regional plan, so treat the counts as the shape of the place rather than as this year’s number.

The same report is unusually frank about the physical problems, and they are the ones a visiting buyer notices. Siteler is a quarter of four neighbourhoods with no management plan and no settled industrial-site status; it is built vertically in multi-storey buildings instead of horizontally, which the report gives as a cause of lost production time; without industrial-site status the businesses do not get the tax, electricity, water and gas advantages that recognised industrial sites receive; and the area has reached its natural limits with no room to expand. The Elmadağ zone is the proposed answer to all of that.

So Ankara is production, and it is genuine — but it is small-batch and craft production organised as a market quarter, not a factory belt. For joinery, one-off pieces and short runs it is a deep pool. For a single specification delivered to one schedule at volume, firm size is the fact to plan around.

A trade-association document, not a government one.
