What is actually made here
İzmir is on the Ministry of Trade’s list of furniture production centres — İstanbul, Ankara, Bursa’s İnegöl district, Kayseri, İzmir and Adana. It is worth noticing what the report then does: of those six it describes only two further, İnegöl for its export position and Kayseri for its large producers. İzmir is named and left there.
What İzmir does hold is industrial land and a port. Kemalpaşa Organize Sanayi Bölgesi has reached 1,300 hectares after successive extensions; the industrial-zone association’s record of it gives employment there as 21,500 and the zone’s exports as $1.85bn. That is a large general industrial estate, and the national sector report does not point at any furniture quarter or furniture-specialised zone in İzmir the way it does for İnegöl, Kayseri and İstanbul.
The advantage İzmir has over the inland centres is the sea. Ro-Ro sailings from Çeşme to Trieste, from İzmir to Sète and from İzmir to Köstence all ran in 2025, which keeps the land leg of a European delivery inside the EU instead of running it out through the Bulgarian gates. For a French or Italian buyer with a tight date, that is the reason to look at the Aegean at all.
