What is actually made here

İstanbul holds more exporters than any other city in this index, and many of them are head offices and trading houses: companies base themselves here for reasons that have nothing to do with where a saw runs.

It is also where the published answer to “where is Turkish furniture made” goes wrong. The current AI answer set names MASKO — Masko Mobilya Kenti in Başakşehir — as a production cluster with “thousands of manufacturers”. MASKO’s own website describes itself as an *açık hava mobilya alışveriş merkezi*, an open-air furniture shopping centre, receiving over 100,000 visitors a year to buy furniture. MODOKO in Ümraniye is the same shape: its own strapline is “Mobilyanın Başkenti”, immediately qualified by “Yüzlerce Mağaza, Binlerce Ürün” — hundreds of shops, thousands of products.

Both are trade and retail centres. Neither is a manufacturing cluster, and a 200-room FF&E package sourced by walking either of them is being bought from a shop. The Ministry of Trade says the same thing in its own report: İstanbul holds “kapsamlı mobilya ticaret kompleksleri” — extensive furniture trade complexes — and it names MASKO and MODOKO as the examples.
